On 19 August 2025, the Cabinet approved a proposal to allow certain groups to apply for a work permit. These groups are:
- Cambodian, Laotian, Myanmar, and Vietnamese nationals who held work permits before 13 February 2025 but did not complete the required extension procedures or lost the work permit (for example, because they lost their job and was not able to get a new one). They must have a valid or expired travel document.
- Cambodian, Laotian, Myanmar, and Vietnamese nationals who entered legally with a travel document. They can apply even if they have overstayed. They must have a valid or expired travel document.
- Cambodian, Laotian, and Myanmar nationals who entered Thailand illegally.
Important
The employer is responsible for applying for their employees. The work permit is valid for one year. Please note that the information about you may be verified with the authorities in your home country.
If you are granted a work permit, and your passport and/or visa is expired (or will expire), you must obtain a new passport before the work permit expires.
Please note that asylum-seekers and refugees who have a work permit are ineligible to apply for protected person status under the NSM.
